How to Develop Business Management Skills

Hello! My name is Sreyneat Chan and I am a senior at Wilkes University, majoring in Business Management and minoring in Entrepreneurship. I am also a Scholar of Business Management at the Allan P. Kirby Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

In my blog, I am going to discuss how to develop management skills, since they are extremely beneficial for those in business or in any career path. It is important to learn how to properly work with management skills when you are ready to go out of your comfort zone and start facing real-life situations, especially working with professionals. In order to better understand your skills and their best development, follow the practices listed below!

Join Student Societies

There are a lot of activities offered on college campuses, so be sure to take advantage of as many opportunities as you can. For example, there are clubs, sports and many more organizations that you will find interesting and that will help you to meet new people. You can join any of the extra-curricular activities or you can create your own society. Many students are from different backgrounds, and this is a good chance to gain more experience in leadership roles while in college.

Get Involved in Internships and Volunteering

It is great to take part in an internship industry. You will get real experience and more than that it is good for your resume, too. By having an internship, you will learn how to manage your time, a team and moreover, you will learn how to build up skills as well as confidence. You will build more networks with professionals and people from different areas of industries, and this can lead to potential job opportunities in the future. On the other hand, you can also volunteer as a mentor or as a sports coach. This will allow you to work with adults and children in the community and in an educational setting. You can also volunteer as a leader in a community team on an environmental project and manage a charity fundraising group. There are many different possibilities!

Take Advantage of Part Time Jobs

Part time jobs are a great way to learn management and leadership skills. It doesn’t

matter where you are working or what kind of position you are working in - the most important thing is that you will gain experience and all of that is valuable. You will have a lot of responsibility with yourself and for other people at work, building trust in yourself and your team relationships.

Study for Professional Qualifications Courses

A lot of people believe that taking professional qualifications courses will help them to develop their management skills and learn how to do well with managerial skills. By having this, you will deeply understand more of what you are going to improve in yourself as a professional and it will also help prepare you for the future.

Thank you all for reading my blog, I hope you enjoyed it and took something away from it to better yourself and your own management skills!
